Project Description
Rocky Fork Project
The Rocky Fork Creek area of Godfrey, Illinois, is a little known, but highly significant Underground Railroad site. The National Park Service has formally recognized the site as a Historic District. GRLT is a part of a partnership that has been involved in implementing two National Park Service grants to create awareness of the Rocky Fork story. The 33rd Annual Madison County Urban League’s Chairman Award was given to Alley Ringhausen, Executive Director of Great Rivers Land Trust, for impacting the community positively. What began as the restoration of the lake for the Boy Scouts at Camp Warren Levis in Godfrey, Illinois led to Ringhausen undertaking a heartfelt mission to find a way for the Rocky Fork Church to have running water for the first time in history.
